Nice to meet you, Kuusuke! As I contemplated starting a blog and wondered what topics to explore…I stumbled upon the ONE PIECE CARD GAME, and let me tell you—it’s incredibly captivating! I’ve begun playing it, starting in January 2023 (the initial release of the ONE PIECE CARD GAME was in July 2022). Now, I’m thinking of starting a blog related to the ONE PIECE CARD GAME, with the hope that it will resonate with newcomers and fellow trading card game enthusiasts like myself.
What is ONE PIECE CARD GAME?
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the serialized manga “ONE PIECE”, a trading card game (TCG) was launched in July 2022. The cards feature various illustrations, including original artwork from the manga.
Indeed, the first and second sets include leader cards with original art and parallel cards featuring comic-style backgrounds. I’ve been buying booster boxes whenever I can, but alas, I haven’t yet laid my hands on them… 🙌
Meeting with ONE PIECE CARD GAME
While I’m not an ardent fan of the manga “ONE PIECE”, I’ve been reading it in Weekly Shonen Jump since my elementary school days, and I’ve collected all the separate volumes(tankobon). I don’t actively collect merchandise, so that’s about the extent of my involvement. Interestingly, due to work-related overseas living, I was completely unaware of the ONE PIECE CARD GAME from its initial release until my return home (I’m sure the information was in Jump’s web subscription, though, haha).
Upon returning home, I happened to catch a commercial featuring Kanna Hashimoto while watching the “ONE PIECE” anime on Sunday mornings at 9:30. That was my first encounter with it, and my intuition immediately whispered, “This seems intriguing!”
What got you interested?
I’ve only really played TCGs during my childhood, with Yu-Gi-Oh! being the main one. Since I didn’t have an environment where I could acquire a lot of cards, I got hooked temporarily and eventually lost interest, as tends to happen, haha.
First, I tried out the “ONE PIECE CARD GAME Teaching App”. My initial impression was that it seemed a bit complicated, but after playing it a few times, I realized it’s not as difficult as it first appeared. The effects are also straightforward (although some of the Japanese text can be tricky to decipher, haha), and my understanding gradually improved. I believe that if you persist and don’t give up at this stage, you’ll find it quite enjoyable!
In the game, each card has a color, and you’re restricted to building your deck using character cards and event cards that match your leader’s color. Each color has unique characteristics, allowing for various strategies and interactions. It’s a game with surprising depth!
I’m planning to write various articles about it, so please look forward to it! 🌟🎉
