Recommendations for Black Moria: Leader Effect and Essential Characters

In the 7th expansion environment, Blue-Black Sakazuki has been banned. I believe that Black Moria has the potential to rise to the top tier after April. Despite the prohibition of the 2-cost Great Eruption, the ability to effectively utilize the 8-cost Moria for board control through KO effects remains strong. Additionally, the flexibility to adapt the attacking strategy based on the opponent is a significant advantage. You can also opt for an aggressive approach by deploying 4-cost characters alongside the leader effect.

[Main Achievements] Nothing significant… still in training.

2 times won of Standard Battles.

I’m still a beginner, so my goal for the first half of 2024 is to win at least one match in the Area Qualifiers. 🏆

Personally, I prefer this artwork over the Leader Parallel. (I’m just pretending…)

As mentioned in the text above, Black Moria’s abilities are incredibly powerful. If you go first, you can attack your opponent with 6000 power while bypassing the cost, allowing you to bring out a 4-cost character with the “Thriller Bark Pirates” trait and its effect (although there are rare cases where you might need to play a 1-cost Shindry). If you go second, you can attack your opponent with 7000 power and so on.

In Black Moria decks, there are three 4-cost characters that are essential:

  • Dr. Hogback
  • Absalom
  • Perona

Sooo cute!!!!

The top of 3 is Perona. Her performance is truly exceptional. Deploying this character early in the game allows you to chip away at your opponent’s resources and gain an advantage in the mid-to-late game. The condition “if the opponent has 5 or more cards in hand” is generally achievable in the early game. Occasionally, you can also utilize the opponent’s cost-3 characters. When using 4-cost Absalom or 4-cost Lucci, you can target 5-cost characters for removal, making this effect incredibly powerful. And the counter +2000… it leaves nothing to be desired. 🌟

This individual is also highly capable. Countless moments have been saved by him. I believe that his true value shines when deployed in the mid-to-late game. The reason being that he can retrieve necessary cards (such as 8-cost Moria, 1-cost Shindry, or 4-cost Perona) while simultaneously placing a 5000 attacker on the board. Among the Black-type leaders, only Dr. Hogback currently has the intentional retrieval ability for 8-cost Moria in your deck. 🌟

Last is Absalom. He’s an incredibly versatile card that can eliminate characters with a cost of 2 or less. By combining him with various cost-reducing event cards or character cards, you can remove characters across a wide range of costs. Having a 5000-power attacker on your board while simultaneously controlling your opponent’s board is a potent strategy.

【Removal Scenarios: Going Second, Turn 3, 6 Don (from April 2024)】
2-cost Helmeppo + 4-cost Absalom (including the leader effect for deployment)
– 1-cost Ice Age + 3-cost Brook (resulting in 5-cost T-Bone)
4-cost Kuzan attack effect + removal character

【Removal Scenarios: Going First, Turn 4, 7 Don (from April 2024)】
Same as the above patterns
2-cost Helmeppo + 5-cost T-Bone

Not only in Black Moria decks but also in Black-type decks overall, this character is often included as a 4-of. It was speculated whether it would be restricted in April 2024, but thankfully, that didn’t happen. After all, if the 8-cost Moria were removed, Black Moria would become significantly weaker…

I will post a separate blog topic about this character at a later date. 🌟
