This time, let’s discuss the utilization of the 8-cost Moria in terms of Leader Black Moria! The 8-cost Moria is a character introduced in the 6th expansion.Since those days, the blue-black Sakazuki has been wreaking havoc, and it has become an essential card to include in black decks. In the current environment, I believe it’s the strongest card among black characters! True to form, even as a leader, Black Moria naturally requires a 4-card inclusion of the 8-cost Moria, allowing you to fully utilize its potential.

8-cost Moria’s On Play effect

When this card enters the field, you may choose one character card from your trash with a cost of 4 or less and one character card with a cost of 2 or less. You can put one of the chosen cards into play, and the rest are put into play in the rest position.
This effect allows you to get up to 14 cost worth of value from a single character card. Despite being an already powerful effect, it doesn’t have any color or trait restrictions. That’s why it’s often included in decks, not only in mono-black but also in mixed-color leaders that include black.
In the next chapter, I would like to introduce a representative example of a character card that is often featured in Leader Black Moria.

<Resource Recovery & Cost Reduction>

The resource recovery through drawing one card on play is excellent, and it significantly simplifies dealing with large opponent characters in subsequent turns. And, this character becomes a pseudo-blocker that they need to prioritize for removal from the opponent’s perspective. While it’s truly an outstanding card, it lacks a counter ability. Therefore, you’ll need to either activate your leader effect or bring it onto the field to be KO’d by the opponent and sent to the trash.

Personally feel that it’s not often brought into play. However, it has the ability to retrieve 8-cost Moria or the Thriller Bark trait’s +2000 counter from the trash.

<K.O.>

By playing it simultaneously with cost-reducing characters mentioned later, it becomes possible to K.O. a character card with a cost of 4 or higher. It will also remain on the board as a 5000-power attacker.

It’s often included in the 5th or 6th slot for 4-cost Absalom. If it appears to be in the trash, it might take priority over Absalom. Its ability to K.O. up to two characters and remain on the board as a 6000-power attacker is excellent.

While its ability to provide a +1000 counter and KO opponent characters during attack effects is excellent, it seems to clash awkwardly with the Black Moria leader, who lacks inherent cost-reduction effects.

When it comes to character cards brought into play using 8-Cost Moria’s effect, their priority is relatively low. However, if you’re facing the extremely disadvantageous matchup against Black-Yellow Luffy, I believe it’s worthwhile to bring them out! Reducing the opponent’s hand size is crucial in this matchup, making it an effective move.

<Blocker & Resource Recovery>

A high-quality character card that not only serves as a blocker but also allows for resource recovery. Additionally, it can bring out characters with a cost of 3 or less in the rest position, making it possible to combine with 3-cost Hina or 3-cost Brook on the field.
<K.O. Resistant Blocker>

A blocker with K.O. resistance proves immensely powerful against removal-focused decks (excluding decks that send cards to the bottom). When facing mirror matches or Black Lucci(7th set), Borsalino shines as an excellent choice for remaining on the board. It’s often actively played to prevent the opponent’s lethal moves.
Exaples of character cards in the 1 to 2 cost range that can be brought into play through effects
Character cards in the 1 to 2 cost range, which are often brought into play in the rest position, are mostly used for resource recovery or cost reduction effects. Those 3000-power character cards can also be utilized as attackers in subsequent turns, which can be quite unassuming

If you’re playing a Navy-themed deck, you’ll likely revive it frequently. While sometimes it’s removed, consider it as part of your strategy when your trash pile grows.
<Cost Reduction>

Otsuru, a remarkable 1-cost character, can provide +2000 counter and has a cost reduction of -2. By playing her alongside 4-cost Lucci or 4-cost Absalom, you can KO character cards with a cost of 4 or higher.

Helmeppo, who takes priority over Otsuru, is a 2-cost character. By playing him alongside 4-cost Lucci or 4-cost Absalom, you can KO character cards with a cost of 5 or higher. Personally, I find him valuable because he can reach up to 5-cost characters.
<Blocker>

Sometimes, Cerberus is used as a low-cost blocker. It’s often actively played to prevent lethal moves.
<Trash Inclusion>

When you can’t come up with anything else or want to fertilize the trash, bring this out. It has a low priority.
